It’s tough to beat a vacation that includes Barcelona and the beautiful beaches of Mallorca.

Located between the mountains and the sea, Barcelona has a reputation as one of the most attractive cities in Europe. The capital of Catalonia’s cosmopolitan international vibe makes it a favorite city for many people and is known for its architecture and art. Spend a few days sightseeing before journeying to Mallorca, best known for its beaches, incredible architecture & history, great food, culture, and family fun. Cairn Travels has created a fantastic trip for you!

Day 1: Welcome to Barcelona. Your hotel for the next two evenings is located inside an elegant building in classic Barcelona style, right in the heart of the famous Eixample area. The hotel is a block away from Paseo de Gracia and its emblematic buildings, luxury stores, and the famous La Pedrera Gaudi monument. The hotel houses a bakery allowing guests to enjoy baked goods at breakfast, over the counter, or while relaxing in the charming cafe.

Day 2: Today is yours to explore this amazing city. You may wish to do so on your own or with a guide (inquire for pricing & further details). Barcelona is a fantastic city for art-lovers and those who are fascinated by the ephemeral world of street art. Of course, you can’t miss the works of Gaudi. He was a Catalan architect known as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. His works are scattered throughout the city & are best described as whimsical, organic, Seussical and nonsensical. One of the highlights of Barcelona and Gaudi is the architect’s famous Park Guell.

Don’t miss the most unique church in the world, La Sagrada Familia, or the Church of the Holy Family. It is the symbol that most people associate with Barcelona. Also, Pablo Picasso lived in Barcelona and contributed an amazing museum of his work in the city.

Stroll the Gothic Quarter, home to historical streets and ancient beautiful architecture. Nearby is the Barcelona Market, which has exquisite displays of food and drinks. Marzipan, seafood, fruits, chocolates, olives and local culinary wonders line the aisles. You can sip fresh juices, sample octopus salad or try a spinach empanada.

Day 3: After breakfast transfer to the airport and fly less than an hour to the Spanish island of Mallorca. You will be in awe of the golden sand beaches with stunning views of the mountains and hills towering over an aqua-blue sea with the most intense shades of blue imaginable.

Arrive in Mallorca’s sun-soaked capital city. Palma offers all the culture and history you’d expect from an island that played host to both Moors and Mallorcan kings – and the restaurant scene you’d expect from a Spanish seaside resort town. Renting a car is the best way to see the island. Pick up the car and have lunch in one of the many fabulous restaurants in Mallorca’s gastronomic capital. After lunch, be sure to visit Le Seu cathedral. The gothic cathedral is built on the site of a former Arab mosque. It is one of the highest gothic cathedrals in the world.

Recognized as one of Spain’s prettiest and most distinctive villages, the extraordinarily beautiful and immaculately conserved traditional mountain village has received many awards and prizes over the years. The hotel was previously a convent, now fully restored and modernized into a charming little boutique hotel. The old chapel is now the main suite of the hotel with its own private terrace and truly fabulous views over the Tramuntana mountains and the valley.

Day 4-8: Wake up each morning to breakfast on the terrace & experience the dreamlike view of the mountains.  Walk up and down the stone steps of the village, exploring its charming lanes filled with potted plants and admire the pretty citrus groves.  Not only does the village claim a superlative mountain backdrop but the number of sought-after trails on its doorstep makes the village a top destination for hikers and cyclists. You will be provided a daily itinerary of the area and if a guide is desired, that can be arranged. Activities vary from gorgeous drives to winery tours, birdwatching, botanical walks, nature trails, rock climbing and much more.

Day 9: Today you say goodbye to paradise and fly back to Barcelona for the return flight home.
